Type of material

BEA Coralline Inoculum is a live inoculum made up of macroalgae fragments naturally colonized by pink coralline algae.

Designed to introduce and spread coralline algae in the aquarium, using the colonized fragments as true biological “seeds” to distribute among rocks, substrate, and refugium.

Content

500 ml of water containing fragments of red macroalgae naturally colonized by live coralline algae, kept in seawater.

The quantity, shape, and degree of colonization of the individual fragments may naturally vary from package to package.

Effectiveness

  1. Inoculate the system with live coralline algae.
  2. Promote the gradual colonization of rocks, substrates, and other hard surfaces.
  3. Increase the biodiversity of the aquarium’s surfaces.
  4. Promote the development of the characteristic pink/purple coating typical of mature marine systems.
  5. Distribute the inoculum to multiple areas of the aquarium using small, already-colonized fragments.

Features and format

1 500 ml bag of water, macroalgae colonized by coralline algae.

Dosage

Distribute the fragments in several areas of the aquarium, preferably in contact with or near rocks and other hard surfaces.

Precise dosing is not necessary: one package can be used to inoculate several areas of the system at the same time.

We recommend using 1 inoculum per 200L of system.

  • BEA Coralline Inoculum was developed to introduce fragments already colonized by live coralline algae directly into the aquarium.

    L’s main purposes are to:

    • Promote the introduction and spread of coralline algae.
    • Inoculate rocks, substrates, and hard surfaces.
    • Increase the system’s benthic biodiversity.
    • Promote a more natural, mature-looking reef.

Coralline algae are calcifying red algae characterized by their typical pink, red, or purple coloring and their ability to grow attached to hard surfaces. In nature, they are an important component of rocky and reef ecosystems and contribute to the formation of biologically mature, structured surfaces.

Unlike a simple fragment of colonized rock, BEA Coralline Inoculum uses small macroalgae fragments as a living support that is easy to distribute. Each fragment can be placed in a different area of the system, increasing the number of points from which coralline algae can gradually spread.

Once the inoculum has been introduced, growth will depend on the aquarium conditions. Stable parameters, available calcium and magnesium, proper alkalinity, lighting, and water quality promote the growth of coralline algae on available surfaces over time.

Colonization is not immediate: the product is designed to introduce live, already-colonized biological material and increase the number of inoculation points within the system.

Over time, coralline algae can grow on rocks, calcareous substrates, and other hard surfaces, contributing to the characteristic pink and purple appearance typical of mature reefs.

    • HOW TO USE

Place the entire contents of the package in the aquarium, distributing the colonized fragments across several areas.

Place some fragments directly on the rockwork, in cavities, or near the surfaces you wish to inoculate.

You can also place some of the fragments in the refugium or other illuminated areas of the system.

To encourage the inoculum to spread, avoid concentrating all the fragments in one spot.

The colonization rate may vary depending on the aquarium’s conditions.
